Java is the default in banking, logistics and enterprise integration for a reason: it is stable, exhaustively documented, and every problem you will hit has been hit before. Unfashionable is exactly the point on a system that has to run for fifteen years.

Java, the way we do it
Java is the language of systems that outlive the teams who wrote them. The tooling, the libraries and the operational knowledge around it are deeper than anything newer, and the JVM is one of the best understood runtimes in existence. On a system carrying real money or real regulation, that history is worth more than novelty.
It is verbose, and that is a genuine trade. What you get for it is a codebase where intent is explicit and a new developer can follow what happens without holding the whole thing in their head.

About java
Has BitBee shipped a Java system?
Not among the work shown on this site. We list Java because we build in it, and we would rather say that plainly than let a logo imply a case study that does not exist.
Java or .NET?
Largely down to what your organisation already runs and can hire for. Both are strong choices for a long-lived business system, and neither is a mistake.
Is Java too heavy for a small system?
Often, yes. For a small service we would more likely suggest Go or Node. We will tell you when the answer is something lighter.
